The OdorFree ozone generator is an excellent odor eliminator for stubborn musty smells. Ozone goes directly to the source and will oxidize away the strong, unpleasant odors often trapped in sporting equipment and sports complexes over time.
Saturated by sweat, contaminated with body odors and oils, sports equipment is rarely cleaned after each use. Add moisture from the shower in a steamy locker room to create an ideal environment for unpleasant smells.
If the equipment smells musty, there's a good chance that sweat and residue are present, even if it is not visible. Fortunately, ozone permanently removes these odors when it comes in direct contact with them and eliminates lingering body odors as well.
+How to Treat Sports Equipment Odors+
Solution: Spread out the equipment so that as much as possible of the equipment’s surface area can be directly exposed to the ozone. Then run the OdorFree unit, set on maximum output, while the facility is vacant. Wait an extra two hours after the machine shuts off before returning to permit the high concentration of ozone to dissipate and revert back into oxygen. This process may be repeated monthly, weekly or even daily, depending on the severity of odors.
Note: The fan on the thermostat for the air conditioner may be turned to the ON setting to circulate the O3 and remove any musty smell that has built up inside the ductwork. For long term treatment it is recommended that one window or door be kept open about 2 inches to provide a constant source of oxygen to the unit for ozone creation.

Most spaces will require longer treatment times, so an OdorFree model with a 12-Hour Timer is more convenient. This model has a variable ozone output control and a 60-Minute Timer that automatically turns the machine off when the treatment is completed. For deeply entrenched odors, there is also a “Hold” setting for treatment longer than 60 minutes until the machine is turned off manually. Complete with plates and filter for long-term use.
